Now entering new baking territory

This is not the cake I'm making for Adam. Isn't it pretty though?

This is not the cake I'm making for Adam. Isn't it pretty though?

Something strange happened this year, I ran out of gift ideas for Adam’s birthday! So I decided that aside from the usual presents, I would try to make him a special cake.

Now I can’t go into too much detail just yet, since it isn’t complete yet, and because Adam might read this. Let me just say that it involves rolled fondant.

I’ve always wondered how people made wedding cakes that look so great and during one of my occaisional Flickr trawlings I stumbled on some of the most beautiful cukcakes I’ve ever seen in this photostream. After looking through all of her pictures I saw a comment that mentioned fondant, and that’s pretty much how I got into this baking situation.

I only saw one type of fondant in Woolies and it didn’t look or taste that great, so I looked for a recipe that claimed to be for a relatively tasty fondant. After much searching, this recipe came up and I’m glad to say that it’s been a success! (On the second try though, I wasn’t paying attention to the pan on my first go and burned the lot.)

I’ve just got to make a couple more batches in the morning, grab the last of his presents from the shops and then we’re set!

Once the cake is complete, I’ll do a blog post with pictures. Hopefully the cake turns out well!

Whose Sunday rocked?

Oh. My. God. Going to the beach and rollerblading all in one weekend? That’s like three months worth of social activities in two days!

Going to Manly today was the best thing I’ve done this month, and it’s all thanks to Allie and Abel who organised the whole thing. I have to say that the fact that they remembered that I love rollerblading is awesome, since I only talked about it once or twice.

I spent more time exercising today than I have for the past 6 months, and I have to say it was heaps of fun. Stuff this running on a treadmill or jogging in the streets, there’s only one way to exercise, and that’s by rollerblading at the beach. Fun as it was, we had one mishap, where Abel sped down a ramp, tripped over something and dislocated his knee. Haha. But not really. Poor Abel had to be towed back to the rental store by Troy on his bike while we bladed and biked to this other beach near Manly Beach that I never knew existed.

Later that night while were eating at Manly Wharf, Allie brought out my present, and although I did know that I was getting a present (because it’s hard not to notice a big bag in the boot of the car), I definitely did not expect the Wii that everyone had chipped in to buy. ^^

As I’m typing this Steve and Sean are playing Wii Sports, with a pre-made Mii that looks like Hitler. And his name is Ze German. Subtle much? What about a black Mii named Chocolate Oprah? I wonder who played with this console before I did…

Anyway it was a great day, my legs are tired, I’ve got an essay due really really soon and I’ve got clinical in the morning, but to tell you the truth, I don’t care that much. I had an awesome time today and that’s all that matters.

Photos from today.
