Graduation yay!

At 12 noon today, Sunday the second of December, I received a piece of paper that informs the world that I have completed my course and am now qualified to be a registered nurse. W00t!

To tell you the truth we were dreading the ceremony a little bit, mostly because we expected it to be extremely hot and muggy. Happily, the rain that visited us on Friday came back early Sunday morning and cooled things down a bit.

Like every other event at my uni, people started turning up about 15 minutes late, so there was a rush towards the end, but we managed to start by 10 on the dot. One thing that made me go “wtf” was how they had us sit down in our seats, and then have us get up, then walk out one side, loop round the back and come back up the centre isle. Why couldn’t we go back out and come in two at a time? Sure it would have been hot but it would have looked cool, as opposed to us getting up, walking a little bit and walking back to our seats to music.

Um, my most memorable moment? Hiding behind my degree because I knew Troy was going to pick up and hug the uni president. (I embarrass easily) And we all walked out of the auditorium fully graduated and qualified to be nurses, pilots, teachers, artists and businesspeople.

Of course afterwards everyone needed photos taken with their family and everyone else. I swear my cheeks have never hurt as much as they did this afternoon.

Ooooo its time for a present count:

  1. 2x Box of Lindt chocolates
  2. Elizabeth Arden body lotion
  3. Elizabeth Arden shower gel
  4. A little bottle of peach coloured sweet smelling stuff
  5. A little bouquet of roses
  6. A lollipop ^^

I also wanted a little graduation teddy bear, but noone got me one. =[ Oh well, at least I have chocolate.

Attack of the Butterflies

Hurrah for the end of the year! Now even though classes finished a month ago and clinicals finished last week, I’m still as student as far as my uni is concerned. Well, if you’ve already looked on the events list on the right, you’ll see that come Sunday that won’t be the case anymore.

I’ve just checked out the list of graduands on my uni’s website, and let me tell you, that was the most nervous I’ve been this month. Butterflies in my tummy, tingling arms, the works. It was either an attack of the nerves or a stroke… or both, we won’t be able to tell till morning.

Anyway, I was really glad to see that my name was on the list since I’ve spent the last couple of days worrying that I might not graduate because of some small and probably insignificant matter. If I had to pick the possibility that I worried over the most, it would be that I had failed a subject due to not passing an essay (Ethics), and would have to rewrite the essay to the criteria that the lecturer had specificed and resubmit it. Doesn’t sound so bad does it? But the thing that really got me worried was that I might have failed it, and not gotten the letters telling me that I had. Which would mean that I wouldn’t redo the essay, wouldn’t hand it in again, and would fail the subject and my nursing course, which would mean that I would not graduate this year. Scary huh?

Happily for me, the list of graduands says that I’ll be walking up that platform on Sunday and receiving that piece of paper that says I’m qualified to look after sick people who are in life threatening conditions.

Ok, now I’m nervous again.
