Ok, along with the new wonders that came with Wordpress 2.3.1, the changes that the developers made to the Wordpress database have boggled my poor theme, and since the original author doesn’t update it anymore, it falls onto the poor users like me to fix it if they want their sites staying up and looking pretty.

Here’s a list of things that need fixing:

The search function (problem with post2cat)

Previous/Next page navigation at the bottom

Ok, so it’s not that big a list, but still it’s 8am and I need sleep. There are probably a few more broken thingies that I haven’t stumbled across yet, but those will be taken care of in good time.

Things to do when I wake up:

Make the header image prettier

Play World of Warcraft

Optional: Start packing all my stuff to move out

Ok, so maybe putting the new layout up before it was finished was a bad idea. Why? Josh saw the code. *Dum dum dum*

That simple little incident was enough to embarrass me into an almost total redesign which I am in the process of doing right as I type this blog post. Speaking of blog posts, I know I haven’t been posting anything recently, but something I came across on the net jolted me out of my non-blogging state.

Everyone’s guilty of googling their own name or past aliases to see what the Great Google Giant has on them, and this afternoon the usual sites came up when I googled “sentinelb“.

Now, sentinelb was the alias I used throughout 2003-2004, when I was in Year 11 and 12, and if you read the blog there you’ll probably find the entries of an angst ridden teenager plagued by constant mood swings. Ha.

Anyway, before I was an angst ridden teen, I was a teen who made pretty layouts for Xanga. Unity in Beige was one layout that was particularly pretty, featuring a very prominent header image, and simple text and color formatting in the body. I used it for a few weeks and then quickly changed my layout, (which is one of my bad habits) and then promptly forgot about it.

Until today.

After googling sentinelb, I clicked on this search result and saw that someone calling themselves sailormei had submitted the code to blogring.net, a site of which I was a member back then.

Judging from the comments, the layout was received really well and was even described as being “a-w-e-s-o-m-e” and “dreamy”.

At first those comments made me feel really warm and fuzzy inside, but then I went looking for the theme, since all I remember of it is that it had a big ying yang in it, and was black white and beige. In the hunt for the image, I found this.

By sailormei!

Ok, the only reason I was mad is because I wanted to be famous in the layout scene back then, but I never was. Looks like I should have submitted Unity in Beige.

Oh well, the past is past, and the last post in that thread was made in 2004 so it’s no use complaining now.

Peace.

Yay! The laptop and iPod skins I ordered from Gelaskins arrived today! I picked the Contortionist skins for both the iPod and the laptop since they match, of course, and they stand out.

In other news, I spent all of last night working on a possible new layout for this blog, but now that I’ve seen how it looks on the test blog, I think I might start a new layout. Like most layouts the CSS acted differently in different browsers, and there was a weird color difference when I viewed it on my laptop, while it looked fine on the desktop.

Even though I still have a couple of weeks of clinical left, it feels weird to know that I don’t have any classes left. The feeling that something huge is about to fall on me is gone! Ok there are still a few huge things up there waiting to fall, but for now having one less thing to think about is good enough.

And I just paid for the tickets for our graduation banquet! Yay! Now I need to pick out what I’m going to wear, how I’m going to do my hair, what my sister will wear, and how I’m going to do her hair. Oh yes, I’m taking my sister to this shindig, why shouldn’t I? It’s not like there’s anyone else I can take. (Regrettably) No biggie though, the only thing I’m really worried about is whether I can find a vest and someplace to get stuff tailored before the 26th…

Ok, so I have to admit that clinicals aren’t as bad as I thought they would be.

After six months of placements in community nursing, mental health, aged care and ICU, today was my first day back in a hospital ward. Needless to say, I was terrified inside, because it’s easy to forget how things work on the ward after a semester of not being on there.

Thankfully it was an afternoon shift, which is never as busy as the morning shift since showers and towel baths have already been taken care of. If you asked a nurse to write down a list of activities that they did each day, and to rank them in descending order according to how much they liked them, I’m pretty sure that giving showers will rank pretty low in the list.

Anyway, enough about showers, I’m just glad I didn’t have to do any.

I think I’m falling back into the bad habit of changing layouts every couple of weeks. I know it’s bad practice, because constantly changing layouts can drive away readers who like consistency, but I want my blog to look pretty!

Another motivating factor is that I don’t really like using the layouts that other people design, pretty though they may be, because I personally feel like I’m stealing it. (I dunno, it’s probably just another weird Brian thing)

Assuming things go ok time-wise, the basic layout should be up by the weekend, with small changes being made over the next few weeks.

OK, enough about me, how have you been?
