Overthink much?

(Also contains menopause, blood and fainting.)

So I’ve been trying to blog regularly over the last couple of days. Talking with Josh about him starting up his writing again kind of gave me a little incentive to start blogging again, even though the content of my blog posts doesn’t really fall into the same category as some of the popular novels that live in Borders.

If you look at the date of my last post, you can probably tell that I haven’t been blogging that much and I have lots of good excuses for that. Starting up my new job, being tired, spending quality time with friends, these are all valid reasons for not posting. If you keep looking for a reason though, you’ll probably find this one: I tend to overthink when writing posts.

Over the last two days I’ve started two different blog posts, yet stopped writing them well before the fourth paragraph. Here’s what was written for the post entitled “Goodbye Menopause”:

Well, I would have to say that today was the breeziest day that I’ve ever had in Renal Dialysis. I just went from one task to the next without have to stand around and actually spend five minutes just thinking about what to do next.

Turn the machine on, hang the saline, prepare the extra corporeal circuit, prime the extra corporeal circuit and put the machine into circulation. That’s about 5 minutes of work compressed into twenty three words. It may not sound like much but it sure takes a while to learn exactly how to set up the machine, and what to do when it starts beeping at you.

I’ve gotten so used to working in the dialysis unit that its even possible for me to set up more than one machine at a time! *gasp* Okay, if you come onto the unit and watch us at work, it might look hard when I’m doing it, but you should see the senior nurses when they’re going at full speed. They just whiz from machine to machine, setting it up, preparing the individual stations and prepping the cannulating packs.

And there it is. That post was meant to say how much I liked working in Renal Dialysis, and that I was looking forward to coming back during my New Graduate program and working with the wonderful nurses there. This second post was supposed to be an amusing story about the gym appointment that I nearly missed, and how I narrowly avoided a vasovagal (read: fainted).

Well I went to the gym for a proper session this morning, though when I say proper session, I was really being supervised, just to make sure that I knew how to use the machines the right way.

That was it. That was all I wrote on something that could have made a great story. So the conclusion that I’ve come to after the last couple of days not blogging, is that I write best when what’s written is what I think. (Abrupt ending, but it’s 2325, and I need to get some sleep.)
