Brian goes to see: Beowulf

*POSSIBLE SPOILERS*
I didn’t know what exactly to expect when I went to see Beowulf with Abel and Scott, although I suppose I was expecting something along the lines of 300 because of the whole CGI aspect of it. I wasn’t too sure about the story either because the only thing I know about Beowulf is what I remember from an episode of Star Trek, possibly The Next Generation series where the crew get stuck in a story being reenacted on the holodeck.
Overall I think I’d give the movie a 3 out of 5. The story had lies, temptation, greed and a naked fight scene, all good things to have in a movie in my opinion, but there was something lacking.
One of the reasons that it was decided to make the whole movie CG was that it would allow the director greater control over the art direction. I felt that he could have taken greater advantage of the fact that it was CG to put in more spectacular fight scenes.
Ok, that’s a biased opinion, everyone knows I love a good fight scene. Especially a naked fight scene.
That’s right, various sites on the net have been buzzing about Beowulf’s naked fight scene for a few weeks now, and I have to say that it was pretty good. Although if I did have a complaint, it would be that the director needs to work on keeping a tidy set and coordinating the actors and camera crew so that nothing would get into the way of the camera during some very important fight scenes. By the end of the first twenty minutes I have to say that I did find Beowulf very ‘thrashable’ as Scott would say.
Overall not a bad movie, very watchable, oh, and the viewers get to see a naked Angelina Jolie sans private parts on two occasions of the movie.
I am kinda sad though, that was probably the last movie I’m going to watch with people from my class since I’ll be flying to the Philippines next week. =[
Update: I’ve uploaded the pictures I took at the wedding and the grad banquet. Now you get to see chubby Brian in all his glory!
