From the hospital, with love.

First of all I would like to express my deepest sympathies for Josh, who has gotten sucked in by the work monster. We feel your pain Josh.

The one unique thing about this post is that I’m writing it from a work computer. Usually it takes me a few days on a particular ward to get comfortable enough to use the computers for non-work related stuff, but tonight I’m just tired and need to amuse myself.

Tonight is actually the last night I’m working this week, and I was looking forward to being on Level 7 again, since I’ve been there for the past 3 nights. Unfortunately for me, Roster Office decided to shaft (thanks goes to Steve for the language) me and send me to a different level instead.

After the initial “Gur gur gur…” (Sounds Brian makes when he’s not happy), this ward doesn’t seem so bad. There’s always something to do at the beginning of each hour, but nothing after a quarter past. Although I do miss the hours of chatting that the nurses on 7 and I used to do.

On the plus side the AIN assigned to work here with me is kinda cute. (Although I suppose that if you starve a dog enough he’ll eat anything. On second thought, a dog will eat anything anyway, so comparing me to a dog isn’t really that far from the truth.) Well that was a long aside.

Anyway it’s nearly my breaktime, so I’m off to share muffins with the nurses on Level 7.

Whoppee.

The holiday begins

hongkong

Well here I am in the Sydney International Airport, it’s 7:23 in the morning and I’ve had 4 hours sleep in the last 36 hours. Why? Well, between rushing around getting my things ready for putting into storage and going over to Auntie Joy’s house to have dinner, I seemed to run out of time to do the last of my cleaning up. By the time that I finished doing that, it was so late that I was faced with choosing between sleeping for 3 hours and waking up feeling all manky, or staying awake till 4 when we would leave.I ended up staying awake which wasn’t too bad, since I was able to get an early start on straightening my hair. However after straightening the lot so that it was all smooth and soft, I went and put product in it! Who does that?

(9 hours later)

Anyway I’m writing this in the Hong Kong airport, which is probably my most favourite airport of all time.

It’s just so huge! And it’s like a mini shopping shopping centre with a food court and all. But most importantly it has lots of stores with cool little gadgets in them.

Speaking of gadgets, I’m still due for a graduation/Christmas present from my parents, and they said that I can pick it. Which is great, no complaints from me, but at the moment I just don’t have something that I desperately want. Got any ideas of what I should ask for?

If it’s broken, fix it!

Ok, along with the new wonders that came with Wordpress 2.3.1, the changes that the developers made to the Wordpress database have boggled my poor theme, and since the original author doesn’t update it anymore, it falls onto the poor users like me to fix it if they want their sites staying up and looking pretty.

Here’s a list of things that need fixing:

  1. The search function (problem with post2cat)
  2. Previous/Next page navigation at the bottom

Ok, so it’s not that big a list, but still it’s 8am and I need sleep. There are probably a few more broken thingies that I haven’t stumbled across yet, but those will be taken care of in good time.

Things to do when I wake up:

  1. Make the header image prettier
  2. Play World of Warcraft
  • Optional: Start packing all my stuff to move out

I’m not psychic!

Every time I’m on the wards I think of an issue I want to blog about, but as soon as I get home I either forget what I wanted to write about, or I just lose all motivation to blog. When I started this post I originally felt like complaining about how some nurses won’t ask for help, and then complain about how no ones helping them. If you need help, just ask me! I am not too busy to help nor am I snubbing you, but I’m not psychic!

Ok, enough ranting.

It’s nearly the weekend! Just two more days and I have next week off!

Just a little beach

Well that was fun. What was fun? Oh, just our trip to the beach, that’s all. While it mostly consisted of walking in the water, if you look at the photos you can see the new friends we made while we were there.

Anyway I’m pretty stoked about tomorrow, since we’re going to Manly and all.

Sorry for the short post, I’m just tired and have 1000 words to write before tomorrow morning.

Here we go again

My make up clinical starts up again tomorrow! Not that it’s a good thing, at the moment I really, really despise just the thought of going into a hospital to do stuff that I do not like doing, and not get paid for doing it. Sure clinicals are meant to be a learning experience, but what can I learn in Day Surgery that I don’t already know?

Ok, so Day Surgery isn’t the worst spot to be in, you’re never really bored, you meet interesting people most of the time and the day goes by really quickly.

Alright, now it doesn’t sound so bad, but I honestly don’t feel like nursing is the way I’m meant to go. Even though I’ll be finished at the end of the year, I’ll still have to do a year or so of it before I can start studying something else.

I know, it’s crazy how it took me two and a half years to realise that I don’t like nursing, but regrettably it did.

Oh well, I guess the only thing to do is to take it all one day at a time, and deal with everything when there’s less on my plate.

Here’s a quote from the TV series Reaper:

If you find yourself facing a steep uphill bloody battle, there’s only two choices you can make: quit or put one foot in front of the other and tough it out.
